SSA Will Send August SSI Payment Early, Causing Two Deposits in July

The agency is following a long‑standing calendar rule that moves SSI payments to the prior business day when the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday.

Overview

  • The Social Security Administration will issue the August 2026 Supplemental Security Income payment on Friday, July 31, meaning eligible SSI recipients will receive two deposits in July and no separate SSI deposit in August.
  • This is an administrative timing shift, not extra money; the July double deposit includes July’s regular benefit and an early distribution of the August benefit, so total annual SSI payments do not change.
  • SSI is a needs‑based program for low‑income people age 65 or older and people with qualifying disabilities; 2026 federal maximums are $994 for an individual, $1,491 for a couple, and $498 for an essential person.
  • Social Security retirement, disability and survivor payments are unaffected and will follow their normal birth‑date weekday schedule in August with payments on Aug. 12, Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 depending on birth date.
  • The calendar rule has produced other early payments this year and will produce similar double/skip patterns in October/November and December/January, and the SSA is urging electronic delivery and expanded online account tools to help recipients track timing.
