Overview
- Srinagar International Airport said on July 4, 2026 that it has withdrawn the NOTAM proposing full runway closures on Mondays and Tuesdays and that daytime operations will run daily from 0800 to 1700.
- The airport confirmed that night-time closures for resurfacing and maintenance will continue through October 2026 so crews can work outside scheduled flight hours.
- The resurfacing project began on April 6 and has already cut declared runway distances and disabled the approach lighting system and ILS, which has limited fixed-wing flights to daytime schedules.
- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah pressed the Centre and welcomed the reversal after tourism operators warned the planned twice-weekly shutdowns would cause cancellations and heavy economic harm.
- Officials said any arrangements beyond September will depend on how quickly the resurfacing progresses and that contingency options, including limited use of the Awantipora airfield, remain under discussion.
