Sri Lanka Ordered to Stay in Pakistan as PCB Boosts Security and Moves Series to Rawalpindi

State-level assurances under a tightened security plan prompted a revised schedule centered on Rawalpindi.

Overview

  • Sri Lanka Cricket directed the touring squad to continue the Pakistan trip, warning of a post-tour formal review for anyone who leaves and keeping replacements on standby.
  • At least eight players had asked to return home after the Islamabad suicide bombing that killed 12 people and wounded 27, according to officials and media reports.
  • PCB chairman and interior minister Mohsin Naqvi met the players, pledged to personally oversee protection, and authorities doubled the guards with Army and Rangers support.
  • The remaining ODIs were postponed by a day and will now be played on November 14 and 16 in Rawalpindi.
  • The T20 tri-series with Zimbabwe has been shifted entirely to Rawalpindi and will run from November 18 to 29 after consultation with SLC and Zimbabwe Cricket.
