Sri Lanka Appoints Vikram Rathour as Batting Coach for 2026 T20 World Cup

The former India batting coach arrives on a short-term consultancy to sharpen Sri Lanka’s batting for a home tournament.

  • Sri Lanka Cricket announced Rathour’s appointment as batting coach on a consultancy basis focused on T20 World Cup preparations.
  • Rathour will assume charge on January 18 and remain with the team until March 10, according to the board’s statement.
  • He previously served as India’s batting coach from 2019 to 2024, was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning staff, and worked with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025.
  • The support staff build-out also includes Lasith Malinga as a 40-day fast-bowling consultant from December 15 and R. Sridhar as fielding coach through the tournament.
  • Sri Lanka are tuning up with a three-match T20I series against Pakistan and will open their World Cup campaign against Ireland on February 8 in Colombo after naming their squad.
