Square Enix Details Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, Sets Feb. 5, 2026 Global Launch

The remake introduces a diorama-style presentation with extensive combat and interface upgrades.

Overview

  • Characters and environments adopt a hand-crafted, diorama-like look, with Square Enix creating real-life models and scanning them into the game.
  • Combat and UI see major changes, including overworld strikes that fell weaker foes without entering battles, adjustable battle speed, auto-battle, preset tactics, and a tab-based menu.
  • The vocation system adds Moonlighting to equip two jobs at once, introduces the Monster Master role with the Positive Reinforcement summon, and features powerful vocation perks triggered when characters are worked up.
  • Three paid DLC packs will be available at launch—Road of Regal Wretches ($5.99), Luminary’s Livery ($4.99), and Jam-Packed Swag Bag ($3.99)—alongside a Collector’s Edition.
  • The release spans Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and creator Yuji Horii says VII arrived before IV–VI largely by chance without new remake commitments.
