Overview
- Three brush fires ignited Thursday around 6:20 p.m. near Lyons Valley and Honey Springs roads in steep, rocky terrain east of Jamul.
- The blazes merged within hours to scorch nearly 50 acres before crews halted forward progress on one flank and began building containment lines.
- As of Friday morning, the Springs Fire is 20 percent contained and evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect across multiple zones around Lyons Valley Road.
- Cal Fire San Diego and sheriff’s teams have deployed ground crews and aerial tankers, and authorities have enforced traffic closures on Lyons Valley, Wisecarver Truck and Skyline Truck trails.
- No injuries or structural damage have been reported, and the fire’s cause is under investigation following a 28-acre blaze in the same area the previous day.
