Springs Fire East of Jamul 75% Contained After Vehicle-Triggered Blaze

Evacuation orders have been lifted following the identification of a vehicle’s catalytic converter as the ignition source.

  • The fire, which scorched roughly 50 acres of steep brush east of Jamul, is now 75% contained and has stopped spreading.
  • Authorities have fully rescinded evacuation orders for neighborhoods around Lyons Valley and Honey Springs roads, allowing residents to return.
  • Cal Fire investigators found fragments of a failed catalytic converter at the ignition site and confirmed the vehicle exhaust system triggered the blaze.
  • More than 147 personnel, along with engines, water tenders and air resources, are mopping up hot spots within the fire perimeter.
