Spring Valley Dog Owner to Face Criminal Charges in Fatal Cruelty Case

San Diego County Animal Services is preparing animal cruelty charges with video footage, license-plate tracing, the dog’s remains serving as evidence.

  • At about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in Spring Valley, witnesses saw a red-and-brown Doberman dragged behind a vehicle traveling around 30 mph until it suffered injuries that led to its euthanasia
  • Animal Services obtained the dog’s remains after a veterinary clinic put it down and is preserving them alongside released video footage and license-plate tracing
  • Owner Joseph Holland contacted authorities Friday evening after seeing media coverage, admitted the truck and dog were his and expressed remorse
  • The agency has referred the case to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office under California statutes that allow misdemeanor or felony animal cruelty charges
