Overview
- Spotify announced Tuesday, August 11 that artists can now self-declare an AI Persona in Spotify for Artists and that an AI Persona Badge will appear on selected profiles starting mid-September.
- The badge will show on profile banners, the About/Info section, in search results and next to tracks in playlists, and tapping it will say whether the mark came from a self-declaration or from Spotify’s review.
- Music from profiles labeled as AI Personas will be excluded by default from Spotify’s editorial playlists and personalized (algorithmic) recommendations and will surface only to listeners who explicitly follow those profiles.
- Spotify will proactively review profiles above certain reach thresholds, notify account holders when it assigns a ‘Likely AI Persona’ label, allow artists to confirm or appeal that decision, and will add a listener reporting tool in the coming months.
- The new label targets public identity, not production methods, and comes as platforms face a surge of AI uploads; other services like Deezer and Tidal have already taken different steps such as marking AI tracks or limiting royalties.
