Spotify Unveils Page Match as It Prepares In-App Book Purchases With Bookshop.org

The move ties audiobook discovery to physical purchases through Bookshop.org to support independent stores.

Overview

  • Page Match uses your phone’s camera and text matching to align print or e-book pages with the exact audiobook moment in either direction, and Spotify says it does not retain captured images.
  • The feature begins rolling out today on iOS and Android, targets most English-language titles by the end of February, and is slated to reach all users by Feb. 23.
  • Premium and Audiobook+ members can use Page Match within their monthly audiobook hours, and free users can use it with audiobooks they have purchased on Spotify.
  • Later this spring, U.S. and U.K. listeners will see in-app links to buy physical books via Bookshop.org, which will handle pricing, inventory, and fulfillment to route sales to independent bookstores.
  • Publishers Weekly reports the integration functions as an affiliate deal with about 10% of each sale going to Spotify and a pooled share returning to indie bookstores.
