Overview
- The features are rolling out now on iOS and Android in markets where Messages is available and are expected to be broadly available there by early February.
- Listening Activity lets users who opt in display their current track in real time or their most recent song, visible only to people they already message on Spotify, with quick actions to play, save, open the menu, or react with emoji.
- Request to Jam allows Premium users to send a Jam invite from a chat; if accepted the recipient hosts the synced session and both participants can add to a shared queue, while Free users can join by invitation but cannot initiate.
- Messages remains limited to one-on-one chats with people you have previously shared content with, features are available only to users 16 and older, and messages are encrypted in transit and at rest but not end-to-end encrypted.
- Spotify says group messaging will arrive soon in select markets without specifying which ones, and it reports that nearly 40 million users have sent about 340 million messages since Messages launched last year.
