Spotify Starts Rolling Out Lossless Audio to Premium Users

The upgrade arrives at no extra charge, with Spotify advising wired listening because Bluetooth cannot deliver full lossless quality.

Overview

  • Access begins in the US, UK, Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden, with expansion to more than 50 markets through October.
  • Tracks stream in FLAC at up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz across nearly every song in the catalog, and the feature is limited to paying subscribers.
  • Users must switch on Lossless per device via Settings & Privacy → Media Quality for Wi‑Fi, cellular, and downloads, with a Lossless indicator shown in Now Playing and the Connect Picker.
  • Lossless uses more data and may take a moment to start; Spotify recommends Wi‑Fi and wired or other non‑Bluetooth connections for the full-quality experience.
  • Playback works on mobile, desktop, and tablet plus many Spotify Connect devices from Sony, Bose, Samsung and Sennheiser, with Sonos and Amazon device support expected next month.
