Spotify Starts Rolling Out Lossless Audio to Premium Subscribers

The upgrade comes at no extra cost to position Spotify against rivals.

Overview

  • Access is live for Premium users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden, with expansion to more than 50 markets through October.
  • Lossless streams use FLAC at up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz and are available across nearly every song on the platform.
  • Listeners must enable the feature per device in Settings → Media Quality, with a Lossless badge appearing in Now Playing and the Connect Picker and data-use estimates shown for each quality level.
  • Spotify recommends Wi‑Fi and wired or Spotify Connect playback because Bluetooth cannot carry full lossless audio and may introduce brief start delays as tracks cache.
  • Mobile, desktop, tablets and many Spotify Connect devices from Sony, Bose, Samsung and Sennheiser are supported now, with Sonos and Amazon devices gaining support next month; competitors offer higher maxima up to 24‑bit/192 kHz.
