Spotify Set to Downgrade German Premium Accounts That Do Not Accept New Prices

Existing users can keep old rates by switching to a new Basic tier that drops included audiobook hours.

Overview

  • New customer prices took effect on August 14, 2025, with monthly increases of €1 to €4 depending on the plan.
  • Legacy subscribers were asked to confirm the updated price by October 14, with a short grace period into November before enforcement begins.
  • Accounts that do not confirm will lapse into Spotify Free, which retains playlists but adds ads and removes offline playback.
  • The Basic option preserves prior pricing for existing customers in exchange for losing included audiobook hours, and it cannot be re-subscribed to after cancellation.
  • Spotify says the price update supports platform expansion and innovation under changing market conditions.
