Spotify Rolls Out Lossless Audio to Premium Users in 50+ Markets

The feature arrives at no extra cost after years of delay, narrowing Spotify’s quality gap with rivals.

Overview

  • Streaming tops out at 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC with a visible “Lossless” badge, covering nearly every track though some songs may lack lossless masters.
  • Access has begun in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Czechia and New Zealand, with expansion to more than 50 markets through October.
  • Playback works on mobile, desktop and tablets plus many Spotify Connect devices from Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, Denon, Marantz, Bluesound and Yamaha, with Sonos and Amazon device support due next month.
  • Listeners must turn on lossless per device in Settings & Privacy > Media Quality for Wi‑Fi, cellular and downloads, and the app shows estimated data use for each quality level.
  • Bluetooth cannot deliver true lossless, so Spotify recommends wired headphones or Wi‑Fi/Connect; the upgrade is included with Premium at no additional cost.
