Overview
- Staged mobile rollout begins in select Latin and South American markets for Free and Premium users 16 and older, with expansion to the U.S., Canada, Brazil, the EU, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand in the coming weeks.
- Messages enables one-to-one chats to share songs, podcasts and audiobooks directly from the Now Playing share button, with recipients approving requests before a conversation starts.
- New chats can only be initiated with people you have previously interacted with on Spotify through Blends, Jams, collaborative playlists or shared Family and Duo plans.
- Conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest but are not end-to-end encrypted, and Spotify will use automated scanning and human moderators alongside report and block tools.
- Users can access an in-app inbox from their profile, opt out entirely in settings, and Spotify says the tool complements sharing via platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp and TikTok.
