Spotify Brings Running Mode to Android Premium Users

Offering tempo-matched playlists, editable natural-language prompts, optional English audio coaching, the feature is limited to Premium subscribers in seven markets.

Overview

  • Spotify confirmed Tuesday that Running Mode is rolling out to Android Premium users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden.
  • The feature offers 25 workout presets and session lengths from 10 to 90 minutes so users can pick formats such as intervals, pyramids, easy runs or a quick 20-minute Just Run mix.
  • Running Mode uses Beat Matching to let runners choose a target BPM (160 is common; many prefer 170–180 for faster cadence) and can optionally adjust song speed to match that tempo.
  • Users can tap “View prompt” to edit the underlying natural-language request that guides song selection, and sessions can favor familiar tracks or push discovery toward new music.
  • The rollout extends Spotify’s Fitness Hub and Prompted Playlists work but remains gated to Premium subscribers in select regions with no announced global release or multi-language coaching support yet.
