Overview
- Spotify announced the Playlist Notes feature on Monday and has begun a staged mobile rollout that lets playlist owners and collaborators add short text notes to items in their playlists.
- User-created notes are available on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets, and anyone who can view a playlist can read those notes with the author’s name linking to their Spotify profile.
- Spotify’s editorial team is publishing Editor Notes on flagship playlists such as Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop, and the company has added Editor Profiles that show an editor’s top tracks, albums, and contributed playlists.
- Notes can surface in the Now Playing view even when a track plays outside the playlist where the note was added, and all notes must follow Spotify’s Platform Rules and Terms of Use.
- Journalists say the change builds on last month’s User Notes pilot and is a small product move to make Spotify feel more social, help listeners discover context behind picks, and differentiate the app from rivals.
