The control strips past and future children's plays from a user’s taste calculations so recommendations and the annual Wrapped recap better reflect their own listening and may take up to 48 hours to update.

  • exclusion setting globally in a staggered rollout starting around Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and the option is reaching users at different times on different devices.
  • The switch is available to both Free and Premium accounts and, when turned off, prevents tracks tagged as "Kids & Family" from influencing Discover Weekly, Daily Mixes and Spotify Wrapped.
  • Spotify says the change is retroactive: plays that were already logged in the Kids & Family category will be removed from a user’s taste profile and personalization can take up to 48 hours to reflect.
  • Users can still search for, play and save children’s music after enabling the setting; the only change is that those plays stop counting toward the account’s personalized recommendations.
  • The new persistent option replaces the manual Private Session workaround that parents used to avoid skewed suggestions and should make year-end recaps and daily mixes better match adult listening habits.
