Sportswear Firm Sues Saudi-Backed Golf Venture Over Logo

An Argentine company that makes skateboarding gear filed a lawsuit accusing the Saudi-funded LIV Golf series and one of its teams of copying its logo.
The suit claims the logo for Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC team is “nearly identical” to one the company has used since 2003.
The litigation threatens to complicate LIV Golf’s recent truce with the PGA Tour, the dominant force in men’s professional golf.
The dispute highlights the controversies that have dogged LIV Golf since its launch, including criticism that it’s a vehicle for Saudi Arabia to engage in “sportswashing.”
LIV Golf is financed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund as part of the kingdom’s efforts to diversify its oil-dependent economy.
