Splash Mountain Closes After 33 Years, Set To Be Replaced By New 'Princess and the Frog'-Themed Ride

Disneyland’s Splash Mountain closed on May 30, 2023, after facing years of criticism over its ties to the racist film “Song of the South.”
The popular ride is set to be replaced by a new attraction called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog.”
Crowds gathered at Disneyland on Splash Mountain’s last day of operation to ride it one final time and purchase souvenirs to remember the attraction.
The closure marks the end of an era in which Disney theme park attractions were heavily based on Disney films and characters.
While the Disneyland and Walt Disney World versions of Splash Mountain have closed, Tokyo Disneyland’s version of the ride will remain open.
