Spirit to End Minneapolis–St. Paul Flights Dec. 1 as Part of Bankruptcy Restructuring

The carrier cites a court-supervised overhaul, with refunds promised to affected travelers.

Overview

  • The MSP exit follows a bankruptcy filing four weeks ago, the airline’s second in less than a year.
  • Spirit says it will halt service in 11 U.S. cities on Oct. 2, cancel a planned Macon, Georgia launch, and end Hartford flights on Oct. 31.
  • The company plans to reduce November capacity by about 25% as it pares back its network.
  • A spokesperson confirmed plans to lay off roughly one-third of the airline’s 5,200 flight attendants.
  • Spirit says affected customers will be contacted for refunds and it does not anticipate additional airport exits in the near term.
