Spirit Axes Service to 11 U.S. Cities on Oct. 2, Scraps Planned Macon Launch
The bankrupt carrier will contact travelers with refund options.

- Effective October 2, Spirit will cease all service to Albuquerque, Birmingham, Boise, Chattanooga, Oakland, Columbia (SC), Portland (OR), Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, and San Jose.
- The airline also canceled its October 16 start-up in Macon, Georgia.
- Spirit says it will reach out to customers with affected reservations to offer options, including refunds.
- The carrier remains under Chapter 11 protection after refiling in August 2025 and has warned of substantial doubt about its long-term viability.
- United plans to add service to 15 cities on January 6 to give Spirit customers alternatives, and Frontier has taken some dropped routes, while reports differ on whether 11 or 12 cities are affected.
