- Kaff’s band Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom announced on Facebook that he died peacefully in his sleep on July 11 and no cause of death was disclosed.
- He was best known for portraying keyboardist Viv Savage in Rob Reiner’s 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, where he coined the line “Have a good time… all the time.”
- Born David Kaffinetti in 1946, he first rose to prominence with the prog-rock band Rare Bird, whose 1970 single “Sympathy” sold over one million copies worldwide.
- Kaff worked as a session musician for Chuck Berry on the 1972 album The London Chuck Berry Sessions and later led bands including Model Citizenz and Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom.
- A sequel to This Is Spinal Tap is scheduled for September 12 with Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean returning to their original roles.
