Overview
- Steer suffered a partial tear in the sheath of a tendon in his right wrist on July 26 and was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 27.
- After a specialist exam in Phoenix on Aug. 21, Steer said he is "pretty much done for the year" and was fitted with a new splint.
- The Reds and their medical staff prefer non-surgical healing and will recheck Steer in roughly two weeks to decide whether surgery is necessary.
- Manager Terry Francona said Steer likely will not begin aggressive swings until late September, effectively ruling out a 2026 return.
- Steer was producing a useful 2026 season before the injury and had drawn trade interest before July, but the team expects him to be at full strength by spring training whether he has surgery or not; outfielder Michael Toglia is day-to-day after a dislocated right shoulder that X-rays showed was not fractured.
