Overview
- A white car driven by a 20-year-old Delhi University student ran into four workers installing metal grilles near Shri Ram Chowk on the Dwarka Expressway on Thursday, killing two and injuring two others while the driver was also hurt and taken to hospital.
- Gurugram police impounded the vehicle, collected the driver’s blood sample to test for alcohol, and have opened an investigation with a case of rash and negligent driving pending family complaints and further legal action.
- The two dead workers were identified as Bijendra and Pappu, both from Bulandshahr, and the injured workers were named as Satish Chand and Ram Kumar; officials said the labourers were working for the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority.
- Separately, earlier this month a 32-year-old man, Himanshu Rai, was seriously injured in a Greater Noida hit-and-run captured on a rear-view camera, and Bisrakh police arrested a 24-year-old management student and seized the Tata Punch involved while registering charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering life and rash driving.
- The two crashes add to a pattern of high-speed collisions in Delhi‑NCR that have been driven into public view by viral CCTV footage and are now prompting scrutiny of enforcement, vehicle seizures and whether night-time barricading and reflective warnings at work sites are adequate.
