Speed-Related Road Crashes Across India Kill Over 30 as Pinjore Records Two More Deaths

Authorities investigating driver fatigue, speeding and vehicle control failures are preparing proposals for tougher traffic enforcement and infrastructure upgrades.

Overview

  • From June 18 to 20, a series of at least nine collisions across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Delhi killed over 30 people and injured dozens more.
  • In Bulandshahr on June 18, a family’s car veered into a culvert, overturned and ignited, burning five occupants and critically injuring a 15-year-old survivor when the driver reportedly dozed off.
  • Also on June 18, an out-of-control vehicle in Agra crushed four morning walkers, and in Pune a speeding car ploughed into a parked truck on the Jejuri–Morgaon road, killing nine people.
  • Subsequent incidents included a Rajgarh SUV crash that claimed four family members, an auto-rickshaw fire in Muzaffarpur that killed one, a cruiser-jeep collision on the Samruddhi Expressway killing two, and a speeding Audi in Delhi injuring three.
  • Two head-on collisions near Pinjore on June 20 added two more fatalities, underscoring persistent risks from speeding, fatigue and substandard road conditions.
