Overview
- On the night of July 27, a trajinera carrying 12 women and 18 men became immobilized by mud and invasive water hyacinth in Canal Tlilac, Xochimilco.
- After a radio alert, sectorial officers and lacustrine specialists from the SSC’s Policía Ribereña were dispatched by lancha to the scene near the Antiguo Canal de Cuemanco and Periférico.
- Using a patrol boat, the officers located the stranded trajinera and towed it to a secure area where passengers disembarked safely.
- All 30 tourists, including children and older adults, were evacuated without injuries despite rainy conditions.
- The SSC has reaffirmed its commitment to maintain its land, air and water units on alert across the city’s 16 alcaldías for seasonal canal hazards.
