Special Emergency Response Team Fatally Shoots Suspect After Ambush on State Troopers

Both troopers are in stable condition in local hospitals following the deadly ambush.

Overview

  • The incident began with a welfare check on Susquehanna County’s State Route 171 after Lori Wasko was found shot to death outside her home.
  • Suspect Carmine Faino armed with a semi-automatic rifle opened fire on Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins, striking both before being engaged by a special response unit.
  • Perechinsky applied tourniquets to Jenkins’s wounds and later commandeered a passing semi-truck to block the road and protect others from incoming fire.
  • An EMT responding to the scene was also shot at, crashed while evading gunfire, and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Pennsylvania State Police and the Susquehanna County District Attorney’s Office have launched a joint investigation, and officials say there is no further threat to the public.
