Special Counsel Subpoenas Trump Staff Over Firing of Election Security Chief Who Contradicted Voter Fraud Claims

The special counsel is investigating the firing of Christopher Krebs, the former top cybersecurity official in the Trump administration who contradicted baseless claims of election fraud by the former president.
The special counsel has subpoenaed staff members from the Trump White House who may have been involved in Krebs' firing and is seeking information about how White House officials approached the Justice Department after the election.
The investigators are focused on establishing a timeline of events leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and on Mr. Trump's state of mind around the firing of Mr. Krebs.
The special counsel is also asking witnesses about broader efforts made by Trump's personnel officials to test the loyalty of federal officials and potential hires, including a new questionnaire for government hires known as "the loyalty test."
