Overview

  • On July 6 the special counsel team led by Cho Eun-suk formally requested an arrest warrant at Seoul Central District Court, citing abuse of authority, falsification of official documents and obstruction of duties.
  • The court scheduled a detention hearing for 2:15 p.m. Wednesday to decide whether Yoon should be placed back in custody over his botched December 3 martial law attempt.
  • In a 66-page warrant application, investigators allege Yoon ordered the Presidential Security Service to block his January arrest, directed deletion of secure phone records and instructed guards to display firearms to deter officials.
  • Prosecutors confirmed that treason and drone deployment charges were excluded from this warrant because those investigations remain ongoing.
  • Yoon has denied all wrongdoing during nearly 30 hours of special counsel questioning and his legal team says the detention request is excessive and unsupported by objective evidence.
