Spate of UK Motorway Incidents: M57 Charge Filed, M6 Lorry Fire Shuts Stretch, Fresh M4 and M25 Delays

  • John Butler, 31, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and dangerous driving after a man in his 60s died in an M57 crash, and he was remanded to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.
  • The M6 northbound between J37 (Kendal) and J39 (Shap) remains closed after an overturned lorry caught fire, with National Highways running diversions and warning there is no reopening time yet.
  • A vehicle fire on the M25 anticlockwise between J16 (M40) and J15 (M4) caused long queues and up to 90‑minute delays, with congestion reported back past Heathrow.
  • h WaleWales Police reported a collision on the M4 near Bridgend with lane three closed in both directions between J36 and J35, advising drivers to avoid the area as queues built.
  • Surrey Police referred itself to the IOPC after a woman in her 50s died on the M23 near Gatwick, with inquiries ongoing following recent police contact with the woman.
