Sparkassen to Retire S‑ID‑Check as S‑pushTAN Becomes Card Authentication Method

The move shifts 3‑D‑Secure confirmations into the bank's pushTAN app to meet scheme rules and simplify how customers approve online card payments.

Overview

  • The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe has set a firm shutdown date of 31 January 2027 for the S‑ID‑Check app and is asking cardholders to switch to S‑pushTAN before that date.
  • S‑pushTAN already secures Sparkassen online banking and more than one million cards are reported registered there, with the bank rolling out a transfer assistant and push messages to speed remaining migrations.
  • Mastercard and Visa Click to Pay will be offered to Sparkassen customers at participating merchants from about 22 November 2026 to let users check out without typing card numbers.
  • Customers who do not migrate will no longer be able to confirm online card payments via S‑ID‑Check after the shutdown and can either register cards in S‑pushTAN or use chipTAN, which requires an initial postal activation.
  • The change is framed as a compliance and user-experience update supported by OSPlus technical work, and the Sparkassen warn about fraudsters sending fake messages that try to exploit the transition.
