Spanish Runner Mohamed Katir Banned for Four Years Over Doping Violations

Katir falsified travel documents to mislead investigators after missing three doping tests, extending his suspension until 2028.

Mohamed Katir, a 2023 World Championships silver medalist in the 5000m, has been banned for four years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
The ban follows his admission to falsifying travel documents, including a boarding pass and itinerary, to justify missing a doping test in February 2023.
Katir was already serving a two-year suspension for missing three doping tests within a 12-month period, which began earlier this year.
The four-year ban will run concurrently with the initial suspension, making him ineligible to compete until February 2028.
Despite the violations, Katir will retain his 2023 World Championships silver medal as it was determined he did not gain a competitive advantage from his actions.
