Spanish National Police Seize 1.6 Tonnes of Hashish Disguised as Oranges in Vélez-Málaga

Overview

  • Officers from UDYCO Vélez-Málaga spotted a foreign-registered fruit truck under surveillance on the A-7 and called in Málaga’s Grupo I de Estupefacientes.
  • At a motorway exit interception, agents discovered 1,579 kilograms of hashish hidden inside resin balls wrapped in orange-colored plastic to mimic citrus fruit.
  • An escort car that had been tailing the truck performed an evasive maneuver and escaped, and its occupants remain at large.
  • The driver and co-driver of the fruit truck were arrested and placed in provisional pretrial detention by the Juzgado de Instrucción nº 10 of Málaga.
  • National Police have launched a follow-up probe to identify additional accomplices and map out the wider smuggling network.
