Spanish Monastery Attack Leaves One Dead, Seven Injured

A man claiming to be 'Jesus Christ' assaulted friars at a monastery near Valencia, with authorities still searching for the suspect.

The attack occurred at the Santo Espiritu del Monte Monastery in Gilet, Spain, where a 76-year-old friar died from severe head injuries.
Seven other monks were injured, with three of them hospitalized; their ages range from 57 to 95 years old.
The assailant, who is still at large, reportedly jumped a fence to enter the monastery and attacked the monks in their rooms.
Local police and Spain's Civil Guard are conducting a search in the nearby mountains to locate the suspect.
The incident follows recent catastrophic floods in the Valencia region, which have resulted in over 200 fatalities.
