Overview

  • The Ministry of Transport provisionally approved subsidies for 13 autonomous communities and 128 local entities—including Andalusia, Murcia and the Basque Country’s Alavabus network—under a €355 million program launching July 1.
  • The scheme covers full fares for children under 15, 50% off youth subscriptions and at least 40% off other multi-trip tickets, with the ministry funding half of the commuter subsidy and requiring regions to match the remainder.
  • Of the €355 million total, €235 million goes to autonomous communities and €120 million to local authorities, while the Canary and Balearic islands receive an extra €183 million to maintain free transport through 2025.
  • Registration opens June 18 for Verano Joven 2025, a nationwide program offering registered 18- to 30-year-olds discounts of up to 90% on buses and trains using a personal code.
  • To secure service continuity, the ministry will maintain existing state-run bus stops and services if regional governments opt not to assume those routes.
