Spanish Crown Princess Leonor Embarks on Five-Month Naval Training Voyage

The 19-year-old heir to the throne joins 75 cadets aboard the Juan Sebastián Elcano for a rigorous military training journey across two oceans and multiple continents.

Princess Leonor, as part of her military training, will spend five months aboard the Spanish Navy’s training ship, Juan Sebastián Elcano, covering over 17,000 nautical miles.
The voyage will include stops in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and the United States, with the ship returning to Spain in July 2025.
Leonor will share living quarters with other cadets, adhere to the same strict regimen, and forgo royal privileges during the journey.
This naval training follows her prior year with the Spanish Army and precedes her upcoming aviation training with the Air Force, completing her three-year military education.
The send-off in Cádiz was marked by an emotional farewell from her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and a public display of support from hundreds of well-wishers.
