Record May figures at Valencia, Vitoria and Bilbao underscore growing capacity strains in Spain’s airport network.

Overview

  • Aena’s airport network recorded 145 million passengers between January and May, a 4.9% rise over 2024, alongside 1.2 million aircraft movements (+3%) and 593,584 tonnes of cargo (+6.1%).
  • Special charters for the UEFA Europa League final propelled Bilbao’s May traffic up 10.7% to 681,409 and drove Vitoria to its best May ever with a 23.8% increase.
  • Valencia Airport handled 1,053,602 passengers in May, a 7.2% year-on-year gain; Seville Airport also set its highest May traffic on record.
  • Vigo Airport posted an atypical spike to 94,559 passengers in May, a 475.6% jump after its runway renovation prompted diversions to nearby Lavacolla.
  • Córdoba’s passenger count reached 5,964 by May, matching 2023’s full-year total after Binter launched routes and ahead of Air Nostrum and Vueling services planned for later this year.
