Spain's World Heritage Cities Expand Night of Heritage to Two Days After Unanimous Vote

The change aims to widen public access by easing crowding across the 15 historic centers.

Overview

  • Meeting in Toledo Cathedral, the Group approved shifting the event to a Friday–Saturday festival from 2026 under the new name Las Noches del Patrimonio.
  • Group president José Mazarías said the expansion answers surging demand so more people can fully experience the cultural program.
  • The Premio Patrimonio 2025 will go to Fundación Tatiana following a joint nomination and unanimous support from the member cities.
  • A free concert on 6 December in Ávila’s Lienzo Norte will mark 40 years since UNESCO recognition of Ávila, Santiago de Compostela and Segovia, featuring Orfeón Terra a Nosa, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Segovia and the Escolanía de Segovia.
  • Governance and promotion steps include creating a Heritage Advisory Council of municipal technicians, appointing Gumersindo Bueno Benito as manager, organizing promotional trips to Bombay, Milan, Rome and Mexico, and preparing a White Paper on heritage management.
