Spain’s Water Reserves Edge Up to 55.5% as Regional Gaps Persist

Fresh rain lifted national storage to a modestly above-average level, yet southeast deficits continue to constrain recovery.

Overview

  • Miteco reports reservoirs at 31,094 hm3, a weekly increase of 350 hm3 that brings national storage to 55.5% of capacity.
  • Catalonia’s internal basins stand at 70.51% according to ACA, comfortably above the region’s drought threshold after this year’s rebound.
  • The Segura basin holds 269 hm3, or 23.6%, adding six hm3 on the week but remaining well below typical seasonal volumes.
  • Andalusian reservoirs store 5,668 hm3 at 47.45% capacity after recent rains, holding about 13% more water than at this time last year.
  • Recent precipitation raised levels across much of Spain, with a weekly maximum of 123.1 l/m² in Vigo, while the Tajo headwaters slipped to 49.7% after an 11.7 hm3 decline.
