Spain’s V16 Beacon Rule Takes Effect Jan. 1, 2026 With Motorbikes and Special Vehicles Exempt

The connected beacon sends a stopped vehicle’s exact location to DGT 3.0 via GPS with an embedded SIM.

Overview

  • The V16 warning beacon will replace traditional emergency triangles for signaling immobilized vehicles from January 1, 2026.
  • Mandatory use applies to passenger cars, vans, trucks, company vehicles, professional fleets, buses, and non-special trailers registered in Spain.
  • Motorcycles, mopeds, and special vehicles such as agricultural or construction machinery are exempt due to size or structural limits that prevent safe installation.
  • When activated, the device provides physical light visibility and transmits precise location data to the DGT 3.0 platform.
  • Real-time connectivity enables road panels and navigation systems to alert drivers to stopped vehicles to improve anticipation and safety.
