Spain’s Road Deaths Exceed 1,000 in 2025 as Castilla y León Records Four-Year Low

  • Provisional DGT data count at least 1,088 fatalities on interurban roads through December 17, with the final figure still pending holiday travel updates.
  • Castilla y León closed 2025 with 108 deaths, down 14.2% from 2024 and the lowest in four years, as Segovia rose to 14 from five and Ávila fell to six.
  • Castilla-La Mancha recorded 68 deaths to December 17, a 14.9% year-on-year decline, with increases in Toledo, Cuenca and Albacete and sharp drops in Ciudad Real and Guadalajara.
  • The summer months were the deadliest nationally, with 115 fatalities in July, 114 in August and 116 in September, according to DGT figures.
  • Heavy trucks figured in several fatal crashes, including the AP-6 collision that spilled hydrogen peroxide, and victims included local officials and emergency responders.
