Overview
- The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations reported 3.44 million foreign affiliates in June, 86,630 more than in May and 350,163 more than a year earlier, an 11.31% annual increase.
- The May-to-June increase tracked the delivery of the first provisional permits on applicants who presented documentation, permits that allow employment while full applications are still processed.
- Regional Social Security data show Euskadi added 6,867 foreign contributors in the two months since the regularization began, a 6.4% rise in affiliates.
- Gipuzkoa hit a record 37,604 foreign affiliates in June after adding 1,021 in that month and 3,477 year-on-year, and Asturias added 1,462 in June for a one-year gain of 6,196 contributors.
- The surge in registered foreign workers far outpaces overall job growth and will affect labor supply and Social Security contributions as the extraordinary regularization process continues to be processed in the coming months.
