Spain’s Regions Report Strong 2025 Transplant Results, With Catalonia Leading and Galicia Setting a Record

Expanding donor pathways lifted volumes even with varied family consent trends.

  • Madrid’s public Hospital 12 de Octubre completed four heart transplants in 63 hours, and the region reported 1,026 transplants in 2025 with heart procedures up 35% to 104, which officials say may be the country’s highest pending national data.
  • Castilla y León registered 130 donors enabling 434 transplanted organs, while its hospitals performed 261 implants across kidney, liver, lung, heart and pancreas programs.
