Overview
- INE data show a net gain of 105,488 residents in the third quarter of 2025, setting a new high for the series that began in 1971.
- Foreign-born residents rose by 115,389 to 9,825,266 as the number of people born in Spain fell by 9,901 to 39,617,578.
- By nationality, Spain counted 42,310,520 Spanish nationals and 7,132,324 foreign nationals, with quarterly increases of 26,551 and 78,937 respectively.
- Top arrival nationalities in Q3 were Colombian (32,100), Spanish returnees or new nationals (24,500), Moroccan (23,400) and Venezuelan (20,500), while the largest exits were Spanish (9,100), Colombian (8,200), Moroccan (7,900) and Romanian (4,400).
- Every autonomous community gained population, led by the Valencian Community (0.40%), Aragón (0.36%), Castilla-La Mancha (0.34%), Catalonia and Navarre (0.32%), households increased by 55,109, and Galicia’s rebound to 2,726,314 residents has been driven by growth in foreign residents as journalists note nationality gains linked to the Law of Democratic Memory.
