Spain’s Pension Bill Sets September Record at €13.64 Billion, Up 6.1% Year on Year

The increase reflects this year’s pension revaluation—2.8% generally, 6–9% for minimum benefits.

  • Retirement pensions accounted for roughly three quarters of the outlay, totaling €9,969 million, about 6% more than a year earlier.

  • Permanent disability was the fastest-growing category, rising 10.3% year on year compared with slower gains in other benefits.
  • Social Security paid 10,379,303 pensions to more than 9.38 million people, increases of 1.6% and 1.5% respectively from September 2024.
  • The average monthly pension across the system stood at €1,313.97, with the average retirement pension at €1,508.7 after year-on-year increases of 4.4% and 4.3%.
