Spain’s National Day Parade Set for Sunday in Madrid With New Aerial Finale and Expanded UME Presence

City officials forecast heavy disruptions with up to 80,000 attendees along the Prado–Colón route.

  • King Felipe and Queen Letizia will preside from Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, with TVE and the Defence Ministry channel broadcasting live.
  • The schedule runs 11:00–14:00 along the Prado–Recoletos–Colón axis, with extensive early-morning road closures and public-transport diversions across central districts.
  • A total of 3,847 personnel, 162 vehicles, 74 aircraft and 229 horses will take part, with the UME marching two battalions to mark its 20th anniversary.
  • The aerial finale shifts to the Formación Mirlo, which will draw the national colors in the sky in place of Patrulla Águila.
  • PAPEA’s Sgt. First Óscar Marsal Hernández and Sgt. First José Carlos González Herrera will parachute in a 24‑square‑meter, 15‑kilogram flag before the tribute to the fallen.
