National Day Parade Set to Begin in Madrid With Royals and Mirlo Flypast

Authorities expect around 80,000 spectators under extensive traffic restrictions with full live coverage.

Overview

  • King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will preside, joined by Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía.
  • A total of 3,847 personnel, 74 aircraft, 162 vehicles, 229 horses and six dogs are slated to participate.
  • The ceremony begins at 11:00 with a PAPEA parachute jump carrying a 24 m², 15 kg flag by Sgts. Óscar Marsal Hernández and José Carlos González Herrera.
  • Formation Mirlo (Pilatus PC-21 instructors) replaces Patrulla Águila and will close the flypast with the first tricolour smoke display.
  • The UME marks its 20th anniversary by marching two battalions, as the parade follows the AtochaCibelesRecoletos–Colón route with live broadcasts on RTVE and the Defence Ministry’s YouTube channel.
