Stronger international demand and rising room rates underpin performance despite softer domestic travel.

Overview

  • INE reports 48.1 million hotel overnight stays in August, up 0.9% year over year, with non‑resident nights rising 1.7% and resident stays slipping 0.5%; average revenue metrics advanced as ADR reached €155.7 (+6.1%) and RevPAR €125 (+7%).
  • Madrid logged more than 2.1 million overnight stays in August, a 3.8% annual increase, with a majority of international guests, ADR up 12.6% to €121.6, 55.3% occupancy and hotel employment up 8.5%.
  • Catalonia showed a slowdown, with June–August hotel nights down 0.36% and August down about 1%, shorter stays (3.2 days) and broadly contained or lower summer room rates, including a 0.6% drop in Barcelona’s June–August pernoctations.
  • Castilla‑La Mancha outperformed with August hotel nights up 8% to 413,078 and travelers up 5.6%, as prices rose 3.49% and ADR reached €71.97; elsewhere in the north, Gipuzkoa posted high prices (€194 average; €238 in Donostia) with 87–90% occupancy and 60% foreign entries, while Cantabria and Santiago reported cooling hotel demand.
  • Argentina’s INDEC said July hotel travelers increased 2.6% to 1.705 million but total overnight stays fell 2.1% to 4.09 million, with a notable drop in non‑resident activity.
